The most famous bridge in Prague which, according to a legend, was built of mortar fortified with eggs is one of the most splendid surviving monuments in Prague. Charles Bridge connects the Old Town to Lesser Town and in past it was an important transport and trade artery. Charles Bridge replaced the former Judith Bridge and was originally called simply Stone or Prague Bridge while the name Charles Bridge was established in 1870 at the initiative of Karel Havlíček Borovský.
The second oldest bridge in the Czech Republic is decorated with 30 mostly baroque sculptures and sculptural groups and is also completed by three towers. In the Lesser Town there is higher and lower the Lesser Town Bridge Tower and in the Old Town there is the Old Town Bridge Tower.
The bridge is now open for pedestrians only and it is frequently visited by tourists. Pleasant atmosphere on the bridge is created by painters and artists who offer their pieces of art as well as an opportunity to have ones portrait made. You can also dance with dancers and circus performers or just listen to melodic music of cheerful musicians.
The beauty of Charles Bridge can also be seen from the deck of our boats Natal or Porto where you can enjoy a unique view of this architectural gem.
